Membership in the Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets

The 2018 MFFM Board of Directors

MFFM’s mission is to cultivate a vibrant, sustainable farmers’ market community as a vital part of Maine’s local food network. The Federation works with farmers, consumers, and communities to make wholesome, locally-grown foods available to all residents, to educate consumers about food resources, and to support farm viability. The Federation is an independent, nonprofit organization. Membership offers market managers, farmers, consumers and supporters the opportunity to work collectively to strengthen farmers’ markets across the the state.

Any Maine farmers’ market that wishes to be a part of the Federation is welcome. However, we ask that markets that are able take the additional step of becoming contributing members by making an annual donation. As a contributing member, your market supports the programs and resources that MFFM creates and collects, joining a network of hundreds of like-minded people working to promote Maine’s farmers’ market community and improve our local food system.

Examples of MFFM services:

  1. Statewide promotion of farmers’ markets
  2. Networking opportunities among farmers’ markets
  3. Strengthening the collective voice of Maine farmers’ markets
  4. Access to educational opportunities, workshops  and the Maine Farmers’ Market Convention
  5. Assistance with marketing and promotion
  6. Winter consulting for seasonal market planning
  7. Selling Outdoors Maine farmers’ market newsletter

MFFM Dues:

Market membership dues are calculated on a sliding scale from $50-$350.We ask markets to pay as they are able. As a general guideline, small markets contribute typically contribute $5 per market vendor, and medium/large markets contribute $5-10 per vendor. (Well-established, successful markets often contribute more, helping to support the broader farmers’ market community.) While we understand that this may be out of the reach of some markets, please decide what your market can afford within the sliding scale; we want the MFFM to be accessible to all. At this time all benefits are available at all levels.

Individuals and businesses often want to support the work of MFFM, and may become non-voting “Friends of MFFM” at the rate of $25 for individuals and $100 for  businesses.
